How to create a killer newsletter in 5 easy steps

Dear Reader,

I’ve been sending you these newsletters for over three months now. Every week. Without fail.

And I often get asked about taking this step.

So today, I’m going to answer some of the most burning questions about newsletters:

✍️ 1. What should I write about?

Your newsletter should have a clear topic and purpose.

  • What are you passionate about?
  • What are you an expert in?
  • What problems are you solving for your readers?

Your newsletter should provide value, education, or entertainment to your audience.

It should also have a unique voice and perspective that sets you apart from the crowd.

✍️ 2. When should I send my newsletter?

There is no perfect time to send your newsletter. It depends on your audience, your content, and your goals.

But here are some general tips:

  • Send your newsletter at a consistent time and day
  • Test different days and times to see what works best for your open rates and engagement
  • Avoid sending too many or too few emails
  • Consider the time zones of your subscribers

✍️ 3. How long should each newsletter be?

Your newsletter length depends on your content type, format, and goal.

Some newsletters are short and sweet, while others are long and detailed.

Some newsletters are text-only, while others include images, videos, or other media.

The key is to find the right balance between providing enough value and not overwhelming your readers. You want to keep them interested and engaged, but not bored or annoyed. So make sure you use:

  • Headings, subheadings, bullet points, and white space to break up your text and make it easier to read
  • Images, graphics, or other visuals to enhance your message and add some personality
  • Links to direct readers to more information or resources on your website or other platforms
  • A clear and compelling call-to-action (CTA) to encourage readers to take the next step

✍️ 4. Which tools should I use?

There are many tools available to help you create, manage, and grow your newsletter. The tool you choose depends on your budget, needs, and preferences. I like these ones:

  • ConvertKit, which I am using right now. I love it because it also helps you segment your audience based on their interests, behavior, and actions.
  • Substack, which is a platform that lets you create a newsletter and a website in one place. It also allows you to monetize your newsletter by charging subscribers a monthly or annual fee.
  • Revue, which lets you create curated newsletters with content from various sources, such as Twitter, Medium, YouTube, RSS feeds, and more. It also integrates with social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

✍️ 5. How do I get more subscribers?

The final question is how to grow your newsletter audience. This is one of the most challenging aspects of newsletter creation… here are some ways to get more subscribers + retain them:

  • Create a compelling subscribe page that explains the benefits of joining your newsletter, showcases some testimonials or social proof, and has a clear and easy opt-in form
  • Promote your newsletter on your website, blog, social media, podcast, YouTube channel, or any other platform where you have an audience
  • Offer an incentive or a lead magnet to entice people to sign up, such as a free ebook, report, checklist, webinar, or course
  • Collaborate with other newsletter creators or influencers in your niche and cross-promote each other’s newsletters

I hope you found this newsletter helpful and informative.

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to reply to this email or leave a comment on my website.

And if you enjoyed this newsletter, please share it with someone who might find it useful. I appreciate your support!

Until next time,

Tulika :)
